This company installed a brand new unit in May 2021. However, when they did, they also blew fuses, surge protectors, garage door opener, and the fan on the new unit all because the so called "experienced technicians" who did the install took the fuse used for my stove and used it for the AC/Heater. So, if it hadn't blown my fuse box, I wouldn't have been able to use my stove. Come to find out, the techs were all new and inexperienced.
Since the install, we have had several issues with the unit where they have had to send out actual qualified technicians to repair. And now, today during our Fall checkup, I was told I need to replace the pipe connected to the unit that goes up through the attic to the roof. We were never told this needed to be replaced with the new install. But today, Jim, the manager, said, well the new units put out much more heat so it probably detieriated faster. Well, if this is the case, shouldn't they have informed us of this when they examined all what needed to be done or changed out to install the new unit? So I asked Jim if they would be able to give us a discount for the new pipe install after everything we've gone through with them. He said there isn't anything they can do because the $750 is at the lowest price already. I asked him if he would ask the owners, and he said he did before he called me, and they also said no. I wasn't asking for anything free, just some sort of discount, but this just goes to show what kind of company they really are.
The funny thing is, because of what happened with us, SA Specialties implemented a new policy that all new installs are to be inspected when completed.
Also, I ended up with a $1500 ER/Ambulance bill because the technicians leaked gas or some sort of chemical in the house and never told me to go outside when they all did. So I ended up feeling nauseous, dizzy, and passing out in my front yard.
Now, we have had some experienced and good technicians come out for the repairs and maintenance, but that's because I make sure to request it. If you use this company, just be sure to ask for them and know what type of ownership and management you're getting with this company. Unfortunately, for me, the unit is under a 10 year maintenance and repair warranty, so I have no choice but to use them.
We had S.A. Specialties install a new unit in 2016. This was before they offered full "award winning" (as they say on their TV commercials) 10-year warranties and cleanings/tune ups. We purchased both separately. So for over 7 years, the first photo below is how they left the disconnect box with NO cover, a potential fire hazard all this time.
Fast forward to this week when we heard a buzzing sound coming out of the air handler closet. It had been cutting off occasionally and we'd reset breakers, cleaned the drain, etc. but the problem was a burned, loose wire that had discolored insulation and a rusty screw and bolt inside the box. We had a tech come out this week and rewire it, put in a box with cover which is the second picture below. They charged us $325 and after speaking to a manager, they refunded the charge.
That's over 7 1/2 years -- we had many techs for the servicing and nothing was ever done, mentioned or corrected. The install in 2016 was a nightmare and overlooking this problem could have been very serious and we would have never known except for the buzzing sound and burned wire with rusty bolt.
We are now very reluctant to use S.A. Specialties anymore even with some warranty and a bunch of cleanings/tune ups left to go. We feel stuck with them however. We have to leave this honest feedback posted due to safety reasons for our family.
1st pic - Initial out of code install and how it was left all these years.
2nd pic - The install of the new box with cover.
Thank you to Elroy and Sebastian who did an excellent job on completely replacing all the A/C Heating ducts Jan 5, 2024. These gentlemen were professional, explaining the problem and what they were going to do. It’s was a lot of hard work, and every duct is now working. Thanks again SA Specialties, we will definitely call your company again when needed.
Both Josh (GM) and Tyler (technician) worked together to provide stellar customer service and they got our system on the right track. We had an overall miscommunication in the past but this company did everything they could to make this right. I will be recommending this company - good customer service and fair pricing.
I encouraged several family members to purchase units from SA Specialties about 12 years ago. Awesome performance, but better than that was great customer service. It’s all gone downhill.
Over the last 5 years or so, when my 85+ parents need help with their (very expensive) unit, they are always two or three days out for service no matter when we call. I don’t know how others get sooner appointments, but it will behoove you to know there must be some secret or preference. Worse yet is that my parents need to call SA Specialties during times when the unit is truly needed; most recently during the 2023 summer heatwave with San Antonio temps over 105, and again this weekend with temps in the teens. They were supposed to be here today during the 12noon block, but when we called to confirm we learned that we were placed with the after 5pm group. This is after we initially called them two days ago. This is so frustrating to me as this song and dance phone conversation is the new norm.
As for customer service - in my opinion it no longer exists at SAS; when I’ve called for service the techs’ conversation and documentation upon completion is that the unit is “within levels” (which is no information about what they did) and then 10-15 minutes of, “we can upgrade your system by adding (insert product here) for only (insert $$$$ here).
Unfortunately, my advice now (years later) is to avoid SA Specialties!
You get what you pay for. Service is terrible. I had a new unit installed a couple of months ago. Within a week the unit was leaking into the ceiling of one of my upstairs rooms. I called and they reluctantly send out a tech on a Saturday. Tech comes out and said someone would call and arrange to come and fix the problem, and the installation was also done wrong. No call. SA Specialties call me and say the city needs to come and inspect the installation. This was several weeks after they sent out a tech and a coincidence. City come, several things failed the inspection. They would pass on the information to SA Specialties, so they can come and fix it. No call. I called them because my unit is still leaking. Still no resolution. SA Specialties do not know how to treat customers and resolve issues. They maybe one of the cheapest. And now I see why.
It was time for our routine maintenance. It was easily scheduled, and Andy, once again, did a great job. He was courteous and informative. From this, and past experiences, we always request him as our service tech, and will continue to do so.
We've been very happy since we had them install our new unit last year. We had a minor hiccup right after install, but shout out to Chris for coming on a weekend to get it fixed asap! They are always very responsive, get someone out …
